The first recording sessions started at Real World studios near Bath, England in mid December 1994 and continued until early January 1995. Following a further writing period in February/March 1995 two more songs, Sweet Little Truth and I like It So, were recorded at Sunset Sound Factory in L.A. during the first week of May 1995. The album was mixed by Tchad Blake at Sunset Sound Factory in the following two weeks and was mastered by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering in Portland, Maine on June 8th 1995. The album was released 10 months later in April 1996.
Sweet Little Truth (Archer/Hughes)
Am I a part of the latest thing or the latest thing you let go
Who needs to know
Am I a part of another world that's turned me upside down
Why do you put me under
Why does everything spin round
Have I begun to see beyond the clouds
Sweet little truth waltz into the room
And tell me something that I never knew
Sweet little truth
What else can I do
If it's coming let it get here soon
Oh why don't you talk it up
Patience is virtue and mine shines through
When you talk it up
Quietly hoping that this'll bring you a moment to last forever
Didn't you know
I never meant to be overheard
I thought it out too loud
Diving for the cover of some other whispering crowd
Have I begun to see beyond the clouds
Sweet little truth waltz into the room
And tell me something that I never knew
Sweet little truth
What else can I do
If it's coming let it get here soon
Oh why don't you talk it up
Patience is virtue and mine shines through
When you talk it up there's an aura all around you

After Hell (Archer/Hughes)
Won't you bring down a veil on this perfect day
I am moved by the words in your stinging turn of phrase
I'll weep like the windows in some cheap hotel
And I'd give anything to know that there'll be heaven after hell
And I'd give anything to know that there'll be heaven after hell
Won't you bring me the taste of your vintage wine
I would drink in the air while I idle out of time
But fate poured me water
No sweet muscatel
And I'd give anything to know that there'll be heaven after hell
And I'd give anything to know that there'll be heaven after hell
Tell me that the hemlock look like daffodils
And the Summer might be frozen
Say it will
Won't you please someone please tell me
And I'd give anything after hell
And I'd give anything to know that there'll be heaven after hell
Won't you bring down a veil on this perfect day

One More Good Night With The Boys (Archer/Hughes)
Put down your playthings and nursery rhymes
And take up the place with the boys who turn to men before their time
But they're babies
All mothers cry when they realise there's nothing more they can do for you
All they say is, "How time flies" and they pray
For a girl who'll be kind and who'll treat you right
When everything crumbles before you
While all you feel inside is desperate to prove there's more for you
You twist the knife
One more good night with the boys
Who try to tell you they won't sell you
Won't sell you, won't sell you
You twist the knife
One more good night with the boys
Who try to tell you they won't sell you
Won't sell you, won't sell you
Falling, falling down
Falling, falling
Under the skin of a Jaguar
She's purring and probably waiting
Like a trip to Shangri-La for the day
On the checkout she smiles as she passes time
Pretending for hours and hours
Anything in trousers gets her away
But a girl of this kind doesn't qualify
She promises then doesn't want to
Eyes shouting suicide while yelling what can I do for you
You twist the knife
One more good night with the boys
Who try to tell you they won't sell you
Won't sell you, won't sell you
Now the girl on the line is your alibi
The villain is stumbling towards you
My how you've learned to lie to keep everything that controls you
You twist the knife
One more good night with the boys
Who try to tell you they won't sell you
Won't sell you, won't sell you
You twist the knife
One more good night with the boys
Who try to tell you they won't sell you
Won't sell you, won't sell you

Rain Falling (Archer/Hughes)
Rain falling to the ground
Paint me in blue
Paint me in deep blue
Rain falling to the ground
Wash over me
Wash away misery
Rain falling
Here in my room there's time to lose
'Cause everything's done for me
I watch the moon and how it changes
My hands are tied
My fingers burned
But I'd do anything for you
I wait for news but nothing changes
Rain falling to the ground
Paint me in blue
Paint me in deep blue
Rain falling to the ground
Wash over me
Wash away misery
Rain falling
Another day
Another night
Another dream to haunt me
Another plan to make some changes
Gone and you're gone and you're gone and you're gone
And yet here I am
Gone and you're gone and you're gone and you're gone
And yet here I am
Gone and you're gone and you're gone and you're gone
And yet here I am
You're leaving like homeless thoughts
The weather waits for no-one
But in my world it never changes
Rain falling to the ground
Paint me in blue
Paint me in deep blue
Rain falling to the ground
Wash over me
Wash away misery
Rain falling
Rain falling
Rain falling

I Like It So (Archer/Hughes)
Over a mountain wave of splendour we remember
Inside a fragile web of longing
We stumble into everything like fools that we are
The perfect futures planned much more than we can stand
When you look right through me I try to smile
And you think it shows I like it
I like it so
When the strength comes to me
And the time is the time for you to go
I like it I like it I like it so
I like it so
Sometimes this pleasant little treasure should know better
Out in the cold again it's pouring
With runarounds and what they've found to wave in the air
I think I see the light that doesn't make it right
When you look right through me I try to smile
And you think it shows I like it
I like it so
When the strength comes to me
And the time is the time for you to go
I like it I like it I like it so
I like it so
High on a hill faking it all
Laying quite still riding the storm
And wanting more
When you look right through me I try to smile
And you think it shows I like it
I like it so
When the strength comes to me
And the time is the time for you to go
I like it I like it I like it so
When you look right through me and the time is the time for you to go
I like it I like it I like it so
I like it so

Breaking My Back (Archer/Hughes)
I'm tired, I've been weary
Although I've been vane I feel pity
For those with no words of forgiving pay no mind at all
I'm fine, I'm a sinner
I'm striving to let out the winner
While childhood embraces the killer found within us all
I've tried so hard
Breaking my back
I was breaking my back
I was breaking my back
I was.....
Waste time come and see me
I only require what you give me
We'll capture the future that maybe someday we'll recall
This bride's not forgiving the snowy white laces of willing
No stains and no semblence of thrilling hiding in this whore
She tries so hard
Breaking my back
I was breaking my back
I was breaking my back
I was.....
They pay you flat then take it back
Found out she's sleeping in the park
Found out they're working in the dark
You break your back
You keep all that
My castle is fitting
My study is warped and air-splitting
The shower of words I am spitting
Reigning on the floor
I've tried so hard
Breaking my back
I was breaking my back
I was breaking my back
I was breaking my back
I was breaking my back
I was breaking my back
I was.....

I Would Love To Be Right (Archer/Hughes)
Oh now look what you've done
Don't pass me that look
I'm sorry you feel I have no point of view
But now wait for a clue while you hit a fool
I feel that sympathy has no business with you
I would love to be right
I would love to be right
I could live on my own
I would love to be right
For once I would love to be right
Now you appear in my room like dust on the floor
It scares me to think of the things you could do
As you undo your tie and slip off your shoes
Denying that sympathy has no business with you
For once I would love to be right
I can see you smiling
Laughing at me
Underneath the silence I would love to be right
I should bail myself out but where would I run to
Scream the house down but I'd only come to
Painting a mask to cover your tracks
And show them my good side
Turn the radio on
They might play that tune
The one that you like to pretend you can croon
But before your mood swings I'll keep you amused
Remembering sympathy has no business with you
For once I would love to be right
I can see you smiling
Laughing at me
Underneath the silence I would love to be right
I would love to be right
I would love to be right
I would love to be right
I would love to be right

You Made A Fool Of Me (Archer/Hughes)
I was caught in the rain but I never noticed clouds in your eyes
All the same old excuses still apply
Who do you think you're bouncing like a ball
You made a fool of me
But I'm only reminiscing
I wandered though the times that we knew
Would leave me here reminiscing
You expected the maid but she's changed into the guest
Who expected a place that was equal to the rest
Who do you think you're buying with that pot of gold
You made a fool of me
But I'm only reminiscing
I wandered though the times that we knew
Would leave me here reminiscing
Reminiscing
But I'm not finished yet
I won't let it rest
I won't take second best
I have whispered complaints when I wasn't free to think
I had thoughts I could break every condescending link
Who do you think you'll find under my petticoat
You made a fool of me
But I'm only reminiscing
I wandered though the times that we knew
Would leave me here reminiscing
Reminiscing
You made a fool of me
I wandered though the times that we knew
Would leave me here reminiscing
Reminiscing
Reminiscing

Memory (Archer/Hughes)
I have a memory
Runs in my head
Blends in quite cleverly
Runs in my head and I still hear what was said
I have a memory
Sometimes regrets
Somehow they never leave
Runs in my head and I still hear what you said
Sleeping with the candle burning
Hope for better days
As I sit here and I wonder
I have a memory
I can't forget
Somethings are meant to be
Runs in my head

Give In With Grace (Archer/Hughes)
I hear the sound of beating drums
But all they play are wedding vows
When all I want to hear you say is don't you ever go
The city smokes like an old man in his bed
With fading hopes and fading memories of when I was on my own
Don't you ever go
The marching bands go marching by
And I recall these careless hands
That held the world and let it fall
You were there below
Don't you ever go
Don't you ever go
Although you'll recognise me from these photographs
I'll change and I'll give in with grace
I'll change and I'll give in with grace
But will it save me?
But will it save me?
But will it save me?
Your stories thrill
But they all sound like a lie that I have lived
And I thought that I was right
But you gave me more than you'll ever know
Don't you ever go
Although you'll recognise me from these photographs
I'll change and I'll give in with grace
I'll change and I'll give in with grace
I've changed and I'll give in with grace
But will it save me?
But will it save me?
But will it save me?

In Your Garden (Archer/Hughes)
If I could bring you imagination
Can I depend on your promise to break the rules
I'm letting go of my own reflection
So take these dreams and pretend they belong to you
I try to bring you the perfect morning
The moon sails out on the wave of a Gershwin tune
You lose control
A voice is calling
Like shadows that fall on the floor in your favourite room
Who, who, who, who?
Tell me who's in your garden?
Who, who, who, who?
Tell me who's in your garden?
Somewhere out there they're waiting
All they are saying is, "This is my demand"
And they all fall down when you call around
But what goes around always comes round
If I could bring you a moments pleasure
The stars above wouldn't offer a better view
But you want it all
You creep and crawl
You take my friends and pretend they belong to you
Who, who, who, who?
Tell me who's in your garden?
Who, who, who, who?
Tell me who's in your garden?
